More in Vienna!

It's always amazing to me the wonderful things you see just on a casual walk in any city in Europe. We continued our walk through the streets of Vienna, where we saw many statues and fountains.

The Pestsaule statue in Vienna, also known as the Plague Memorial. It was erected in 1679 after the city underwent a terrible plague. The Hapsberg Emperor Leopold I vowed to erect a memorial if the plague stopped. Several sculptors contributed to it over the years. It features the Trinity on the top with nine angels down the sculpture and a depiction of the emperor in prayer.

Walking around, we came up St. Peter's church, or Peterskirche. The original was established by Charlemagne in 800 but that one is mostly gone. This one was erected in the 12th century.

The dome depicts a fresco of The Coronation of Our Lady.

Springtime in Vienna! Beautiful...
On our way to see a cool Viennese apartment building that they call the Viennese Gaudi.
It'called Hundertwasser and there are colors and creativity everywhere!

"an uneven floor is a melody to the feet"

This whimsical house was built between in 1985 featuring undulating floors, a roof covered with earth and grass, and large trees growing inside the rooms,  limbs extending from windows. Hundertwassert wasn't paid for the design of the house, declaring that it was worth it, to prevent something ugly from going up in its place.

There is mosaic art everywhere, even made from a tombstone!

Vienna State Opera. I took a yellow tour bus and saw many of the sights downtown.

Drove over to Schönbrunn Palace but didn't stay. Next time we will have to stop and see the beautiful gardens etc.

Bear the Leonberger sitting in the sun

A stroll through the Park Stadt across from the hotel.

The night before we left Vienna, we went to an authentic Austrian restaurant. Funny because grown men were wearing liederhosen, little leather shorts, with regular business shirts. We ran into a young couple who happened to be from the midwest but living in Bristol, England. Cute couple. She is an Art History major and he an Aerospace Engineer both from U of Michigan, studied for their Master's and PHD in England. Nice. Good food too.
The moon over St. Stephens.
